Dr. Naji Makarem and Christian Elemele co-founded Wakanda Group in 2017, three years after Christian graduated from the Masters in Urban Economic Development at UCL which Naji leads. That's how they met, on an urban economic development program. They began to discuss their ideas about private-sector led Development through partnerships during the Masters program field-trip in Kumasi, Ghana.

Since then they have launched Wakanda Social Enterprise and raised the seed funding for the 3% Fund, they are currently working on developing the Wakanda-JMG Solar partnership and have also launched DIGA (Digital Good Governance for Africa) and its first initiative, ResporeNaija.

Christian and Naji make a great team and have the following expertise between them:

Business-plan development

Financial planning

Pro-Development lens

Community-building & grassroots organising

Integrity, transparency and open-mindedness for new ideas and collaboration

I am an economic development scholar and practitioner and a social entrepreneur.

I co-lead the Msc. in Urban Economic Development at UCL's Development Planning Unit (the DPU in the Bartlett School) and a development consultant for the past seven years for clients such as the World Bank and DFID.

I am the founder of UrbanEmerge, an inclusive and sustainable development consultancy, and DIGA (Digital Good Governance for Africa) and its first initiative, RestoreNaija.

I believe with good ideas, a pro-Development lens, access to new technologies and our social connections we can get people, organisations and resources around good ideas and make them happen. No worthy dream is too big to realise. Together we can achieve anything we set our minds to!
